Dear Members

Over the last few months, we have been carrying out an audit and benchmarking review of all our services and departments.

The need for the review has been identified as a result of an increase in pupil numbers at King’s, which looks set to continue into the future, the need to enhance the curriculum and allow pupils optimum access to facilities and also to ensure that we are operating in the most efficient and cost-effective way to underpin the continued success of the school into the future and ensure its long-term financial sustainability.

As a result, certain necessary restructures have been identified and we are writing now to inform you of a change to our facilities usage policy at King’s Rochester Sports Centre.

With effect from 25th March 2024, our gym facilities can no longer be available during the day for external users, as the space is now needed for timetabled lessons for our pupils. We understand and regret that this change may cause some inconvenience to those of our gym members who prefer to exercise during the day, however, the gym will continue to be available to members during the evening and weekends.  We remain committed to supporting a small number of community groups and local schools who currently use the sports centre during the day.

As I am sure you will understand, at this time we are working with and supporting the centre staff affected by this change and details regarding membership options and opening times beyond the 25th March will be made available in the coming days. Should you have any questions in the meantime, please do email

We strive continually to balance the needs of our pupils and our local community members and to provide the best possible facilities and services for all concerned.

Thank you for your support of the King’s Rochester Sports Centre. We do hope to continue to see you there.

With very best wishes.
